Budget-Friendly 3-Day Da Nang and Hoi An Itinerary

I first set foot in Vietnam back in 2018. It was a quick visit to Ho Chi Minh City—or Saigon as many still call it. While it introduced me to the country’s rich culture and bustling urban energy, I knew there was more waiting to be discovered. For years, I kept my eyes on Central Vietnam, particularly Da Nang and Hoi An. I was drawn by the golden bridges in the sky, colorful lanterns on quiet rivers, and the peaceful coastal charm that seemed so different from Saigon’s buzz.

This year, I finally made it happen. The best part is that, I didn’t have to worry about planning a thing. Thanks to JJA Travel and Tours, I got to experience a well-curated, budget-friendly Vietnam itinerary. This allowed me to explore the best of Central Vietnam in just three days—with all the essentials taken care of.

Here’s a closer look at how our Da Nang and Hoi An itinerary went, and why this short and sweet journey turned out to be one of the most memorable international trips I’ve had so far.

Why Visit Da Nang and Hoi An?

Da Nang and Hoi An are coastal cities that border Central Vietnam opening up to South China Sea. These strike a perfect balance between nature, well-preserved cultural heritage, and modern charm making it into the country’s visitors’ travel radar. From unrivaled mountaintop scenes and stunning shores to cultural immersion and unique gastronomic experiences, this Da Nang and Hoi An itinerary has it all.

Additionally, it’s an ideal short international getaway from the Philippines. No visa is required for Filipino passport holders for stays of up to 21 days, making it perfect for long weekends or holidays.

Day 1: Ba Na Hills, Golden Bridge and the Charm of Da Nang

We boarded a red-eye chartered flight from Manila to Da Nang via VietJet Air, excited for what lay ahead. Despite the early call time, the anticipation kept us all awake and buzzing.

Our first major stop was the Ba Na Hills, one of Da Nang’s most iconic attractions. The journey began with a scenic cable car ride, which is known to be one of the longest and highest in the world. As we ascended the lush mountains, panoramic views of the forest (even the view of Helios waterfalls!) and surrounding hills left us in awe.

At the top, we were welcomed by the famous Golden Bridge, also known as the Buddha Hand Bridge—a surreal sight where a golden walkway is held up by two giant stone hands. Perched 1,414 meters above sea level, the Golden Bridge is a stunning architectural marvel that stretches nearly 150 meters across the Paradise Garden It is quite a scenic link between the mountain base or French Village and the Le Jardin D’Amour Gardens.

We explored the French Village, a whimsical part of Ba Na Hills designed to resemble a European Medieval town with cobblestone paths, Gothic-style churches, and quaint cafés. We even tried the thrilling Alpine coaster for only 70,000 Vietnamese Dong!

To end our first day, we went to Da Nang’s famous Dragon Bridge. We were lucky—it was the weekend with fair weather, so we got to see the fire and water show. The dragon breathed fire and sprayed water. It was a stunning sight and a perfect mix of modern design and local culture.

Day 2: Coastal Vibes and the Timeless Charm of Hoi An

Our second day started with a visit to Da Nang Cathedral, also fondly called the “Pink Church” due to its charming pastel facade. It is the only church in Da Nang built in the French colonial period. This 1920s Catholic church stood as a striking symbol of Vietnam’s colonial past.

After that, we spent some time relaxing at Da Nang Beach, known for its clean shoreline, soft sand, and peaceful ambiance. It’s easy to see why it’s a favorite among locals and tourists alike. If you are into water activities like Banana boat, parasailing and others, there are shops and resorts along the shore that offer them.

We continued to explore APEC Park and the Lover’s Bridge, two serene riverside locations perfect for a light stroll and quiet moments. These places reflect Da Nang’s charm—laid-back, green, and balanced with urban development.

Apart from top attractions, we also visited local silk and gemstone shops. Here, we learned about Vietnam’s centuries-old craftsmanship. It was both educational and inspiring to see how traditional trades continue to thrive in modern times.

As night fell, we took a magical Vietnamese lantern boat ride along the Hoi An River. Floating lanterns lit up the water as we made wishes and released them, surrounded by a glow of soft lights reflecting off the calm river. It was the most enchanting moment of the entire trip.

After the cruise, we headed to probably one of the highlights in this Da Nang and Hoi An itinerary: Hoi An Ancient Town. Hoi An felt like stepping into a different time. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the town is known for its yellow-walled buildings, colorful lanterns, and bustling streets filled with history and heart. We walked into its streets fringed with restaurants and shops selling local products.

Day 3: Culture, Adventure and Coastal Views

On our last day, we ventured to Canaan Island for a coconut boat ride. It is indeed a fun and unique Vietnamese experience! Locals skillfully rowed round bamboo boats through lush nipa palm canals, showing us their balancing tricks and even dancing on the boats. It was both a cultural immersion and a light-hearted adventure.

From there, we made our way to one of the most spiritual landmarks in Da Nang. We drove to the Linh Ung Pagoda, home to the 67-meter high Lady Buddha statue. Towering above the Son Tra Peninsula, Lady Buddha offers panoramic views of Da Nang’s coast. The pagoda complex was peaceful and serene. It is an ideal spot to reflect on the trip before heading back.

That evening, we flew back to Manila with memories to last a lifetime.
